Cyfarthfa Castle Museum & Art Gallery

One of the finest free attractions in South Wales. Cyfarthfa Castle houses a world-class collection of industrial heritage, fine art and social history, telling the story of Merthyr Tydfil from the iron age to the present day. Open April to September.

Cyfarthfa Park

160 acres of parkland surrounding the castle, with a lake, woodland walks, a pitch and putt course (small fee) and stunning views. One of the best free green spaces in South Wales — great for a walk, a picnic or a family afternoon out.

The Taff Trail

A 55-mile traffic-free walking and cycling route from Cardiff Bay to Brecon, passing right through Merthyr Tydfil. The section through the town and up into the Brecon Beacons is particularly spectacular — easily accessible from the town centre.
